Emergency crews rushed a 3-year-old boy with a gunshot wound to Children’s Mercy Hospital on Thursday.
The ambulance call came at 2:46 p.m. from 6904 W. 52nd Place in Mission, in the Bridges at Foxridge apartments. A dispatcher said it was a type red call, meaning it could be life-threatening. The boy went into surgery after the shooting.
The shooting occurred in a basement apartment. It was taped off as police processed the scene.
Capt. David Moloy of the Mission Police Department said it appeared the boy was shot once through the arm and in the abdomen with a 9 mm Glock semiautomatic pistol. The magazine was out of the gun when officers arrived.
The boy’s father was in the same room with the child when the shooting occurred. The father’s roommate and the roommate’s girlfriend were also in the apartment.
Moloy said the circumstances of the shooting were under investigation but it may have occurred while the gun was being cleaned. All three adults were being questioned by police. A neighbor said one man was taken away in handcuffs.
It is the second child shooting in the area in recent weeks. On Jan. 10, a 4-year-old girl was shot in the head by another child in south Kansas City. The girl, Trinity Ross, was declared brain dead days later. In that case, the child found a gun on a chair.

4 months, 2 weeks agoA Glock Pistol is one of the safest pistols in the world.. I doubt that any 3 year old kild could pull a double action pistol toward them and then discharge the pistol.A Glock pistol has a two stage trigger the act of pulling it across the table to discharge it is highly likely. I am sure the Bullethole will explaine it to you. WAKE UP MISSION Officers!
