Authorities have identified the man fatally shot Friday in a Dollar General store in Olathe as Cody M. Kincheloe, 21, of Olathe.

An Olathe police officer shot and killed Kincheloe after he pulled a gun on the officer inside the store about 8 p.m.

The officer had responded moments before to a report of a car traveling east in the westbound lanes of Santa Fe Street.

He found the car in the parking lot of the store at 112 N. Clairborne Road, just east of Interstate 35 and south of Santa Fe. Witnesses said the driver had entered the store.

According to an Olathe police spokesman, the officer went inside and was confronted by Kincheloe, who displayed a handgun. The officer then shot Kincheloe, who died at the scene.

The officer wasn’t hurt and no one else was injured.

An occupant of Kincheloe’s car was questioned Friday night.
