A former Johnson County deputy was charged Tuesday with unlawful sexual relations against an inmate.
Vernon Finkenbinder, 39, of Gardner, is accused of inappropriately touching and communicating with a female inmate while she was in custody and he was still a deputy, according to authorities.
Finkenbinder posted $50,000 bond and was released Tuesday. He is scheduled to appear in court on Oct. 11, according to court records.
Authorities alleged the incident occurred Sept. 23 at the Central Booking Facility in Olathe. It was reported to deputies two days later, and officials immediately began investigating the allegations.
Finkenbinder was placed on administrative leave and resigned several days ago, said Master Deputy Rick Howell.
The sheriff’s office said investigators determined that it was an isolated incident. At no time was the security at the detention facility, staff or other inmates in jeopardy, officials said.
